Ex-BBC Radio 1 and former Capital Xtra DJ Tim Westwood has been charged with 15 sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police. The 68-year-old is accused of crimes spanning more than three decades against seven women.
The charges include:
- Four counts of rape
- Nine counts of indecent assault
- Two counts of sexual assault
The alleged incidents occurred between 1983 and 2016. Mr. Westwood is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 10 November.

Statements from Authorities and Defence
Lionel Idan, Chief Crown Prosecutor, confirmed the decision to prosecute: “Our prosecutors have established that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.” He stressed the importance of respecting the active legal proceedings and the defendant’s right to a fair trial, cautioning against prejudicial commentary.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police praised the alleged victims for coming forward: “It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature.”
Mr. Westwood, who was an early champion of UK hip-hop and came to public attention when hosting his rap show on Radio 1 from 1994, has denied claims of misconduct following previous accusations reported in 2022 by BBC News and The Guardian.
