Footballers both retired and active have taken to social media to react to the tragic death of popular singer Liam Payne.
Footballer Jack Grealish and England legend David Beckham have both taken to their social media platforms to mourn the tragic death of multiple award-winning singer and performer, Liam Payne.
David Beckham took to his social media platform to share a picture of himself with the singer describing him as a cheerful person. The two are said to have known each other through Victoria Beckham’s friendship with Payne’s ex-girlfriend and musician Cheryl Cole.
His social media post read, “Such a kind, generous person, and will be missed in so many ways.”
Jack Grealish also took to his social media platform to share a repost of Liam Payne’s former bandmate in One Direction, Louis Tomilson with heartbreak and tears emoji expressing how the news had shocked and saddened him at the same time.
Liam Payne tragically died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31, after falling from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to a press release from the Argentina National Prosecutor’s Office, the autopsy report provided details about the singer’s cause of death and the injuries he suffered before passing. The report indicated that Payne died from “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.”
Polytrauma, as defined by the National Library of Medicine, refers to a condition involving “multiple injuries, some of which can lead to severe disability or even be life-threatening.” The prosecutor’s office described polytrauma as “multiple traumatic injuries,” often affecting multiple organs or bodily systems. This condition is typically associated with incidents like car crashes, as well as suicide or homicide attempts.
Research indicates that fatalities resulting from polytrauma can happen immediately or within a short period following the injuries, often due to a primary brain injury or severe blood loss. If death occurs later, it is usually due to complications such as secondary brain injuries or the body’s inability to recover from the trauma.
Are the police investiagting Liam Payne’s death?
The Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencia issued a statement to Telemundo, a part of NBCUniversal, following Liam James Payne’s death, saying, “British musician Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo. In the afternoon, police personnel from Precinct 14B were directed to the hotel by a 911 call reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
Although the 911 call was made just minutes before Payne’s death, the prosecutor’s office noted that it did not specifically mention Payne by name.
The Security Ministry of Buenos Aires, in a statement to the Associated Press, confirmed that Payne “had jumped from the balcony of his room.”
Medical personnel found the singer with “extremely serious injuries” and pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to the prosecutor’s office, “everything indicates that the musician was alone when the fall occurred, and that he was going through some kind of breakdown as a result of substance abuse.” Forensic analysis of Payne’s hands revealed no defensive wounds, leading investigators to conclude that “all the injuries on the body were vital and produced at the same time, and that no injuries were observed that could suggest the intervention of third parties.”
The position of Payne’s body suggested that he “did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and that he could have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.”
Further toxicology tests have been requested to determine whether Payne had alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of his death, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Following Payne’s death, authorities conducted interviews with five witnesses, including three hotel employees and two women who had been with Payne in his room earlier but were not present when he fell.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the ongoing investigation is “aimed at determining the possible involvement of third parties in the events prior to the victim’s death.”
