The ECOWAS Commission, through its Directorate of Communication, has launched a two-day capacity-building workshop for journalists and media practitioners in Guinea to strengthen efforts against fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and anti-democratic narratives in West Africa.
Organised in partnership with the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Code for Africa, and supported by the Government of Germany, the training, which holds from 21–22 November 2025, focuses on media and information literacy, conflict-sensitive reporting, fact-checking, and promoting peace, security, and good governance in the region.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the German Republic in Conakry, Reinhard MECKE, commended ECOWAS for conducting this series of training sessions in several countries in the sub-region. He noted that this regional approach demonstrates remarkable leadership and strong commitment to a more informed, resilient and united ECOWAS. Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the ECOWAS President, Dr. Omar Alieu TOURAY, the ECOWAS Resident Representative in the Republic of Guinea, Louis Blaise Aka BROU, said the training is a call to action and a shared commitment to protect the truth, promote peace and defend democracy through responsible journalism.
