Dr. Shaibu Husseini Honored as Fellow of Theatre Profession by NANTAP

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has been conferred with the prestigious Fellow of Theatre Profession award by the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP).

 

The award, presented on February 22 at Glover Hall, Lagos, recognizes Dr. Shaibu’s outstanding contributions to the growth and development of theatre and film in Nigeria. A celebrated theatre practitioner, film journalist, culture advocate, and administrator, he has played a pivotal role in promoting Nigerian dance, theatre, and film on both local and international platforms.

 

The ceremony was attended by distinguished figures in Nigeria’s cultural and creative industries, including Tola Akerele (GM, National Theatre), Jahman Anikulapo (CORA Chairman), Prof. Duro Oni (Chairman, Body of Fellows, NANTAP), and Mahmood Ali-Balogun (Chairman, AVRS & NANTAP Board of Trustees).

 

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Shaibu dedicated the honor to everyone working to advance theatre in Nigeria. “I am grateful, honored, and proud to be part of a community that consistently pushes the boundaries of creativity, innovation, and excellence. Since the reward for hard work is more work, I commit to continue promoting and advancing theatre and film arts in Nigeria,” he stated.

 

Other distinguished honorees inducted into the Body of Fellows of NANTAP included Joke Silva Jacobs, Sam Uche-Anyamele, and Bolanle Austen-Peters, further cementing the night as a landmark celebration of Nigerian theatre excellence.
