LAS VEGAS — The 51st American Music Awards, set to light up the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 26, 2025, will showcase the global rise of Afrobeats, with Nigerian superstars Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake earning nominations for Favorite Afrobeats Artist. They face fierce competition from South African Grammy-winner Tyla in a category that, since its 2022 debut, has highlighted the genre’s worldwide influence, with Wizkid as its first-ever winner.
The AMAs, hosted by Jennifer Lopez—who returns to the stage for the first time since 2015 and will also perform—promise a night of star-studded celebration. Kendrick Lamar leads with 10 nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for GNX, and Song of the Year for “Not Like Us.” Post Malone trails with eight nods, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey each secure seven.
Adding to the excitement, the 2025 ceremony introduces three new categories: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Social Song of the Year, reflecting the evolving music landscape. Fan voting, open now via VoteAMAs.com and the @AMAs Instagram, will determine the winners, with polls closing May 15, except for Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year, which remain open for the first 30 minutes of the live broadcast.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles–based artist Monsieur Belange joins the global music conversation with his new single, “Jack in the Box,” released April 25, 2025, via DistroKid. Blending soulful R&B, ’90s hip-hop, and rapid-fire rap, the track—born from a chance moment at a California Jack in the Box in 2022—captures the immigrant hustle and dreams of connection. Following his acclaimed single “For the Ransom,” Belange’s latest release, available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, adds a vibrant voice to the diverse sounds celebrated at the AMAs.
The 2025 AMAs will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+, bringing together fans worldwide to honor music’s biggest names and rising stars. Follow @monsieurbelange on Instagram or visit Monbelange.com for more on his journey, and tune in to see if Afrobeats continues its AMA reign.
