At least 42 Zimbabwean and Malawian citizens have lost their lives after a bus they were traveling crashed in South Africa.
According to South African authorities, the bus was taking the deceased home when it overturned on Sunday night, October 12, 2025.
Local transport officials disclosed that the bus was moving through “a mountainous section” of the N1 highway in South Africa’s Limpopo province.
According to the transport officials “It [then] veered off the road along a steep mountain pass and plunged down an embankment.”
The death toll includes seven children. South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has mourned the victims, saying the accident is not only a tragedy for South Africa but for “Our sister states of Zimbabwe and Malawi” as well.
