At least 37 persons have died and 1,500 households have been hard-hit by floods in South Africa.
The South African government has declared the severe flooding a national disaster. Aside the 37 lives lost, the floods in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, caused more than R4-billion in infrastructure damage.
Several areas in Mpumalanga were affected by the disaster, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa who has visited victims of the flood.
President Ramaphosa says “schools in the affected areas of Nkomazi and Bushbuckridge have been suspended.”

He said “The government will be focusing on the repair and rehabilitation of damaged houses and infrastructure as well as assisting families and households affected by the disaster.”
He added that “Our thoughts and prayers go to all the families who have lost their loved ones.”
