Zambian Woman Rescues Husband From Fight Only For Him To Die Moments Later

A Zambian woman has lost her husband whom she had rescued from a fight with another man only for him to die moments later allegedly due to an injury he sustained during the fight.

The woman of Mtilansembe Compound in Chipangali District of Eastern Province reportedly rescued her husband after he picked a quarrel with a 28-year-old man who failed to restrain himself, and mercilessly clobbered him.

Christopher Phiri, 31, on Saturday last week joined friends in drinking Kachasu at the neighbour’s house. As the illicit beer got the best of them, Phiri picked a quarrel with 28-year-old Michael Daka.

Daka did not hesitate to lay hands on the Kachasu imbibing Phiri. On seeing what was happening to her husband, 30-year-old Yvonne Zulu rushed to rescue him from further beatings.

On locking her husband inside the house to prevent further altercation, Phiri complained of a painful stomach.

This prompted the wife to take the husband to the hospital, after reporting the incident to the Police.

A matter that was reported as assault then, later graduated to murder, after Phiri died in Chipata Central Hospital where his assault wounds were being nursed.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba says an unknown object was used by Daka to clobber Phiri, who later died in hospital.

Mweemba says Daka has been arrested for the alleged murder of Phiri, while funeral for the now deceased Phiri is on.

He says the suspect is held at Kapata Police Post and will appear in Court soon.
