Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his right ankle in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Leganes in La Liga. The 17-year-old youngster is expected to miss between three and four weeks of action, according to the club, after tests revealed a grade 1 injury to a ligament in his ankle.
Yamal’s injury is a blow to Barcelona, who are already struggling to find their form in La Liga. Despite remaining top of the table, the Catalan giants have won just one of their last six games, allowing Atletico Madrid to draw level on points. Real Madrid are also lurking just a point behind, with a game in hand on Barcelona.
The teenager’s absence will be felt, particularly in the upcoming clash against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, which is Barcelona’s final game of the year. Yamal will also miss the Copa del Rey last-32 tie against Barbastro on January 4, as well as the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, which takes place later in January.
Yamal had shown promise in his recent performances, and his injury is a setback for both the player and the team. However, Barcelona will be hoping that he can make a swift recovery and return to action soon, as they look to regain their momentum in La Liga and beyond.
