Woman Collapses and Dies During Violent Protest At Ghana-Burkina Faso Border

A woman has lost her life after collapsing during a violent protest at Hamile, a Ghana-Burkina Faso border town.

Hamile is located in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Angry youth in the town were protesting against officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) when the woman collapsed and died.

Reports say before she collapsed, the woman who was yet to be identified as at the time of filing this story, insulted security personnel during the protest.

She was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to reports, the protest started late Saturday night, September 13, and continued to Sunday morning.

Protesters burnt car tyres, vandalized the GIS office and set a Service car on fire.

Reports say the protests started after an alleged arrest of a Burkinabe woman named Ajara who is said to be residing in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to reports, Ajara was resident in Côte due to conflict in Burkina Faso.

But reports say she was arrested and placed into a vehicle used by GIS while on her way to Nandom to visit a relative.
