US Government Revokes Thousands of Visas, Citing DUI, Assault, and Theft Offenses

The U.S. Department of State announced on Thursday that it has revoked the visas of thousands of foreign nationals, a move described as fulfilling the Trump administration’s promise to prioritize the safety and interests of the American people.

The statement cited a range of serious legal grounds for the mass revocations, including assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI).

Breakdown of Revocations (2025 Data)

The action focuses heavily on individuals previously arrested or convicted of crimes that pose a public safety risk. The 2025 revocation data highlights the following major categories:

  • DUI Offenses: 16,000 individuals had their visas revoked.
  • Assault: 12,000 individuals had their visas revoked.
  • Theft: 8,000 individuals had their visas revoked.

The Department of State also cited other grounds for visa cancellations, including terrorism, support for terrorist activities, public safety risks, and overstaying visas.

The Department emphasized that the policy reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to law enforcement and protecting U.S. citizens by ensuring that foreign nationals with criminal records are barred from entering the country.
