Uganda’s Stephen Sunday Eyes Glory at Mr Africa International 2024 Finale in Freetown

Today, the curtains fall on the highly anticipated Mr Africa International 2024 competition at Mamba Point in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Among the ten finalists vying for the coveted crown is Uganda’s fitness enthusiast Stephen Sunday, whose dream is to fly back to Germany with the ultimate prize in his suitcase.

Sunday, affectionately known as the “King of Abs” for his chiseled physique, is no stranger to the competition. In his fourth outing since 2021, he hopes to better his record after clinching the Mr Body of Africa title in 2023. With Nigerian TikToker and reigning champion Rickie Mannie absent from this year’s showdown, Sunday believes his relentless determination and preparation give him an edge.

“My goal is to win overall. It’s been a long journey, and I’ve put in so much effort this time around,” Sunday shared with Sqoop via WhatsApp. But he remains cautious, acknowledging the stiff competition.

“All the guys are good. But I’m more passionate about winning because I’ve worked harder than ever before,” said Sunday.

The competition, featuring participants from 30 African nations, isn’t just about muscular prowess. Contestants must also showcase confidence, intelligence, and cultural representation. Sunday’s preparations, without the aid of a coach, manager, or sponsor, have demanded both physical and mental resilience.

“Training has been difficult because it’s not just about being in shape but also being smart and ready to answer challenging questions,” he noted.

Sunday’s ambitions go beyond the stage. Now based in Frankfurt, Germany, the bodybuilder and model balances a packed schedule, competing in the Hyrox World Fitness Races and representing the Eintracht Frankfurt Athletics Club in short-distance running.

Victory at Mr Africa International would open doors to lucrative modeling contracts and opportunities to travel the globe while promoting African culture and inspiring collaboration among the continent’s youth.

“It’s also an opportunity to showcase Africa’s beauty and inspire young Africans to dream big,” Sunday said.

As the red carpet event nears, Sunday, alongside fellow Ugandan finalist Denis Wafula, is determined to bring glory home. The stakes are high, but for the King of Abs, this could be his crowning moment.
