South African music superstar, Tyla has won yet another prestigious award. The ‘Push 2 Start’ hitmaker was crowned the Favorite Afrobeats Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards.
This year’s American Music Awards ceremony was held at the prestigious Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, May 26, 2025.
The win marks a significant milestone for Tyla, whose hit song, “Water” has catapulted her to global stardom.
Tyla’s win is also particularly notable given the stiff competition she faced from Nigerian Afrobeats heavyweights Rema, Tems, and Asake. Wizkid, who won the inaugural Favorite Afrobeats Artist award at the American Music Awards in 2022 for his chart-topping single, “Essence,” was among the nominees this year.
The 2025 AMAs saw Billie Eilish dominate the night, sweeping all seven of her nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” and Song of the Year for “Birds of a Feather.” Other notable winners included Beyoncé, who took home awards for Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album for “Cowboy Carter,” and Post Malone, who won Favorite Male Country Artist.
The 2025 American Music Awards ceremony was hosted by the iconic singer, Jennifer Lopez.
