Tottenham Hotspur edged Manchester United 4-3 in a thrilling quarterfinal match to advance to the semifinals of the EFL Cup. The seven-goal fest saw Spurs take an early lead, only to be threatened by a United comeback .
Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Dejan Kulusevski doubled Spurs’ lead shortly after halftime, and Solanke scored his second goal in the 54th minute to make it 3-0 .
However, Manchester United staged a dramatic comeback, with Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo scoring in the 63rd and 70th minutes, respectively, to make it 3-2. Both goals were the result of errors by Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster .
Just as it seemed like United might complete the comeback, Son Heung-min scored a stunning goal directly from a corner kick in the 88th minute to put Spurs up 4-2. Jonny Evans scored a late consolation goal for United in the 95th minute, but it was too little, too late .
The win marks a significant milestone for Tottenham, who are now one step closer to winning their first major trophy since 2008. Spurs will join Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United in the semifinals of the EFL Cup
