The highly anticipated Director Korjie Community Football Trophy is back for its third edition, launching in grand style at the Limba Corner Community Playing Field on November 1st in the east end of Freetown.
This tournament, sponsored solely by Director Haroun Korjie in collaboration with the Prominent Breeds Organisation, has become a cornerstone of community football in the area over the past two years, providing both entertainment and opportunities for young people.
The opening match featured Limba Corner Community FC against Kiosk Community FC, highlighted by a thrilling and colourful ceremony that attracted a large crowd of football fans and community members.
In his opening remarks, Director Haroun Korjie, the chief sponsor, expressed his motivation for hosting the tournament. He hopes to inspire and uplift the youth through sports. “My inspiration runs deep — I want to motivate and help the youth,” he stated. “This is a low-income community, but through football, many young people can find ways to support themselves and their families.”
Korjie proudly shared that since the trophy’s inception, four players from the community have successfully advanced to the national Premier League, a milestone he considers a significant achievement. “These boys are now able to help their families. That’s the real impact of this initiative,” he added.
He also urged young people to avoid drugs and instead embrace sports as a positive avenue for personal growth and transformation.
The 2025 edition features 16 teams competing for a grand prize of one hundred million leones (Le100,000,000).
With its growing popularity and strong community support, the Director Korjie Community Trophy has become a symbol of hope, unity, and youth empowerment. As Korjie declared, “The trophy is here to stay.”
