Sierra Leone has earned international recognition after successfully meeting the 2026 Hajj benchmarks, securing a quota of 3,500 pilgrim slots. The announcement came during the closing session of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s 5th Hajj Conference & Exhibition, held under the theme “From Makkah to the World” at the Superdome in Jeddah.
The four-day gathering brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from more than 150 countries, featuring over 143 dialogue sessions and workshops. The conference served as a global platform to share innovative ideas for improving the Hajj experience, spanning sectors such as travel, transportation, healthcare, and technology.
Sierra Leone’s delegation received resounding applause when Dr. Badr Muhammad Al Solami, Adviser to the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, commended the nation for its progress. He praised the efforts of Alhaji Murtada Sesay, Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, and Ambassador Mohammed Barrie, describing their work as “great efforts to putting Sierra Leone at the top.” Dr. Al Solami urged other nations to emulate Sierra Leone’s commitment.
At the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Affairs, Abdulfattah bin Suleiman Mashat, highlighted the successes of the conference, noting the importance of collaboration and innovation in strengthening the Hajj ecosystem. He acknowledged contributions from diverse sectors and emphasized the role of technology and healthcare in enhancing pilgrim welfare.
For Sierra Leone, the allocation of 3,500 slots marks a significant milestone in ensuring access for its Muslim community. The achievement reflects not only organizational efficiency but also the country’s dedication to ensuring that its faithful can fulfill one of the most important pillars of Islam with dignity and ease.
Media analyst note that Sierra Leone’s recognition at such a high-profile international forum underscores the nation’s growing reputation in religious administration. It also highlights the government’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia and prioritizing the spiritual needs of its Muslim population.
