The Smurfs are back with a brand-new adventure, and this time, Rihanna is at the helm! Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated Smurfs reboot, set to hit theaters on July 18.
Directed by Chris Miller with co-director Matt Landon, the film sees Rihanna not only voicing Smurfette but also serving as a producer and contributing original music. She is joined by a star-studded cast, including Nick Offerman, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, and more.
The trailer, introduced by Rihanna herself, teases a thrilling new journey as Smurfette leads the Smurfs from their peaceful village to the streets of Paris. Their mission? Rescuing Papa Smurf, who has been mysteriously kidnapped by the notorious villains Gargamel and Razamel. With the help of new allies, the Smurfs must uncover their destiny to save the universe.
This latest installment marks the Smurfs’ return to the big screen more than a decade after 2011’s The Smurfs, followed by The Smurfs 2 (2013) and Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017). Based on the beloved comic series by Peyo, the franchise continues to capture the hearts of audiences worldwide.
Speaking about her involvement in the film at CinemaCon, Rihanna joked, “I get to show up in my PJs in my third trimester. I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day.”
Fans won’t have to wait much longer—the Smurfs return to theaters on July 18!
