Samuel Ojeogwu (Sammy West), the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels, has been released and has successfully reunited with his family after meeting the conditions of his bail earlier today.
A video shared online shows Sammy West getting into a car with his mother seated behind him as they head home, marking a moment of relief for the family following weeks of legal battle and detention.
Arrest and Detention Controversy
Samuel Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos on October 28 and subsequently charged on November 6 with offenses including criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, and theft.
His detention sparked significant controversy, with the family publicly alleging that the arrest and legal proceedings were due to undue pressure and influence exerted by Regina’s estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
The family had previously alleged that Sammy was denied legal counsel and kept incommunicado following his arrest, prompting human rights activist Omoyele Sowore to publicly condemn the action as an abuse of power.
His release allows the family to move forward with the legal battle from outside the prison system.
