The President of Ghana, John Mahama, has promised to reduce Hajj fares in 2026 for thousands of Ghanaian pilgrims who embark on the yearly holy journey to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
According to him, should the Ghana cedi continue to appreciate in value against the major foreign currencies particularly the US Dollar, Hajj fares in the country would be reduced significantly.
He underscored his administration’s deep commitment to the welfare of Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims.
Addressing a gathering during the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at the Black Star Square in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, Mr. Mahama acknowledged the financial burden many families face when planning the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.
As such, he assured the Muslim community that his administration is actively working with partners to bring the cost down.
Mr. Mahama told the Muslim community about steps his administration is taking to improve Islamic education in Ghana.
