The Swiss Guard has begun rehearsing Pope Francis’ funeral, according to reports, as concerns grow for the 88-year-old’s health. The Pope has been hospitalized with pneumonia and a complex respiratory infection, sparking fears for his life.

Swiss newspaper Blick claims that the Swiss Guard, responsible for protecting the Pope, is under a curfew as they prepare for the pontiff’s potential passing. The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis’ condition is complex, with laboratory tests and chest X-rays showing a concerning picture.

The Pope’s health issues are of particular concern due to his history of lung problems, having had part of his lung removed many years ago. Italian Cardinal Angelo Comastri has described the Pope as “very calm,” saying that his fate is “in the hands of the Lord.”

The Vatican has cancelled or rescheduled several of the Pope’s engagements this week, and he remains hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli hospital. The Pope had previously revealed that he had prepared his tomb, but the location and coffin would break with tradition.
