Omah Lay
Nigerian singer, Omah Lay, has expressed his displeasure over what the seeming poor quality of songs the pioneers of Afrobeats are currently doing.
Speaking in an interview with Billboard, Omah Lay says “I can’t remember the last time I heard a very proper Afrobeats song.”
According to him, the pioneers of the West African music genre are only now chasing “the bag” (cash) and not taking real time to do quality songs.
He lamented that “it’s now Amapiano in Afrobeats”.
Even though he expressed satisfaction about the global success of Afrobeats, he said genre’s pioneers are only “washing it down” and are being “lost by the people that are dancing to it.”
