Fast-rising Nigerian artist Pinqmilz (real name Tamunoimiebam Gift Cookey) is gearing up to release his highly anticipated EP, Hard Times Don’t Last, next month.
Hailing from the historic Opobo Kingdom, Pinqmilz discovered his passion for music at just 13 years old. With a unique ability to create songs without writing them down, he credits his father—a musician—for influencing his artistry.
“My father’s behavior towards me shaped my music a lot. It made me express my emotions through my songs,” he shared.
A Journey of Passion and Perseverance
Growing up in a musically inclined home, storytelling became second nature to Pinqmilz. His creative process is deeply spontaneous, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, nature, and fellow artists while constantly experimenting with melodies and instruments.
Like many emerging stars, his path has been marked by criticism and self-doubt, but his mother’s unwavering support keeps him going.
“Not everyone will love your music, but I remind myself why I started. Music is my way of expressing myself and connecting with people,” he said.
Influences and Future Aspirations
Pinqmilz draws inspiration from Afrobeats giants Davido, Wizkid, and Shalipopi, while also admiring 1da Banton and Dandizzy for their distinctive sound. While he has yet to explore collaborations beyond music, he remains open to new creative opportunities.
