Peter Okoye Reacts to Viral Video of Namesake Arrested in Ghana for Fraud, Kidnapping

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P of the defunct PSquare duo, has addressed a viral video showing Ghanaian police arresting a 31-year-old man also named Peter Okoye in connection with fraud and kidnapping.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, caused confusion among fans and observers due to the name similarity. In response, the award-winning singer took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to clarify that he is not the individual involved in the incident.

“Abeg make una dey specifically dey specify which ‘PETER OKOYE’. I no be thief,” he wrote in pidgin English, distancing himself from the suspect and urging the authorities and media outlets to properly distinguish identities when reporting sensitive cases.

Peter Okoye’s reaction highlights the challenges public figures face when their names are shared with individuals involved in criminal activities, especially in the age of viral content and misinformation.

As of now, Ghanaian police have not released further details about the accused beyond his name and age.
