President Donald Trump has categorically stated that former President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing.
Speaking to journalists from the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday, October 9, in the final hours before the 2025 recipient of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize was announced, President Trump lashed out at Obama.
According to Trump, “Obama got a prize, he didn’t even know what he got. He got elected and they gave it to Obama for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country.”
He says Obama “was not a good President, moving on to say that his 2024 reelection was “much more important” than Obama’s victory in 2008.
In awarding Obama in 2009, the Nobel Committee lauded him for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” specifically citing his advocacy against nuclear weapons, his relationship-building with Muslim nations, his support for human rights and democracy, and his campaign trail messaging to break down ethnic, religious and political barriers.
But Trump – who publicly campaigned for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize – strongly believes Obama was not good President.
He also attacked former President Joe Biden, saying “sleepy Joe” was the worst President.
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado on October 10 “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights” in Venezuela.
