Nottingham Forest Sacks Nuno Espirito Santo After Poor Start to Season

Nottingham Forest has parted ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after just three matches of the new season, ending his 21-month spell at the City Ground. The decision follows his recent admission that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had broken down. Discussions are now ongoing over his successor, with former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou among the names under consideration.

In a late-night statement, Forest expressed gratitude to the Portuguese coach “for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground,” adding that he would “always hold a special place” in the club’s history.

The 51-year-old was appointed in December 2023 after Steve Cooper’s exit and steered Forest to Premier League survival that season. He went on to deliver a seventh-place finish last term—their best since 1994-95—securing European football for the first time in 30 years. These achievements earned him a new three-year deal in June.

However, a poor start to the current campaign, capped by a 3-0 home defeat to West Ham before the international break, coupled with tensions behind the scenes, brought his tenure to an abrupt end.
