Gunmen have killed a village head and one other person during an attack on Darong community in Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025, when unidentified armed men invaded the community and opened fire indiscriminately.
During the attack, the village head of Gyel District, Mr. Dara Pam Choji, and another unidentified man sustained gunshot wounds. Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Bukuru, led a team of officers to the scene and evacuated the victims to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
Unfortunately, both victims were confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
A youth leader and President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYMMA), Solomon Dalyop, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, saying the attack came despite earlier warnings of planned assaults on local communities.
“At about 7:50 p.m. on October 21, 2025, suspected armed bandits attacked and shot dead two people, including Mr. Pam Choji, and injured one person at Darong village of Gyel District in Jos South LGA,” Dalyop stated.
“The bandits just opened fire on the community. The attack followed an early warning of planned raids on Gyel and neighbouring villages.”
Security reinforcements, including army troops and police personnel, have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further violence.
The Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, also confirmed the incident, saying officers were already on the ground to assess the situation.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. We have just concluded our monthly press briefing, and we are moving to the community right now,” Alfred said.
