NIGERIA: Six Ministry of Defence Directors Kidnapped Along Kabba-Lokoja Highway

Tension has erupted in Nigeria after six Directors from the Ministry of Defence were kidnapped by gunmen along the Kabba to Lokoja highway in Kogi State. The incident occurred on Monday, November 10, 2025, while the senior officials were traveling from Lagos to Abuja to take a Directorate-level promotion exam.

Reports indicate that the attackers laid a roadside ambush and stopped the victims’ vehicle before abducting them.

Identities and Union Condemnation

The six women abducted are all staff of Command Day Secondary School, Ojo, Lagos. They were identified as:

  • Mrs. Ngozi Ibeziakor
  • Mrs. C.A. Emeribe
  • Mrs. C. Helen Ezeakor
  • Mrs. C.A. Ladoye
  • Mrs. J.A. Onwuzurike
  • Mrs. Catherine O. Essien

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) expressed shock and condemned the act as unacceptable. Shehu Mohammed, ASCSN President, and Joshua Apebo, Secretary-General, confirmed that efforts are actively underway to rescue the victims.

The union revealed that the Defence Ministry has already mobilized security operatives to begin search and rescue operations.

Calls for Decentralization

The ASCSN used the tragedy to criticize the ongoing practice of requiring civil servants to travel long distances to Abuja for exams, arguing that the poor road conditions and severe insecurity in the country put lives at unnecessary risk.

The union urged the Federal Civil Service Commission to take immediate action and decentralize all promotion and verification exercises to safeguard the lives of federal workers.
