A quiet neighbourhood in Maiduguri was thrown into shock on Thursday night after a 29-year-old man was killed during a violent confrontation, prompting swift police action and the arrest of a suspect.
The victim, identified as Abdulshaheed, a resident of the 777 Housing Estate in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, was attacked at about 9:00 p.m. on February 12, 2026. The alleged attacker, Ali Idris Abatcha, 27, is said to live in the same area.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the suspect allegedly assaulted Abdulshaheed during an altercation, leaving him critically injured.
Emergency Response Falls Short
Police officers responded after receiving a distress call from a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and rushed the victim to Umaru Shehu Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Doctors, however, confirmed that Abdulshaheed had died on arrival.
Suspect Arrested, Investigation Ongoing
The suspect was arrested at the scene, and the weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered by the police. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri for a full investigation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the incident.
Burial Conducted According to Islamic Rites
Following standard procedure, Abdulshaheed’s body was released to his family and buried in accordance with Islamic customs, as the community continues to mourn his sudden death.

Police have urged residents to report disputes early and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
