NIGERIA: Bandits Abduct Multiple Women and Girls in Late-Night Raid in Kano State

Armed bandits have raided Sundu and Biresawa villages in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting multiple women and girls in a late-night raid that has stoked fear across border communities.

The two villages, located along the Katsina–Kano border, have become a frequent target for armed groups, despite a recent peace agreement covering Ingawa, Kankia, and Kusada LGAs in Katsina State.

Displaced Violence

Security analyst Bakatsine shared details of the attack on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, warning that such raids appear to be shifting toward border areas rather than decreasing overall.

“Yesterday night, armed bandits raided the Sundu and Biresawa villages of Tsanyawa LGA in Kano State, abducting several women and girls. The communities lie along the Katsina–Kano border, a corridor frequently exploited by armed groups,” Bakatsine wrote.

The analyst questioned the effectiveness of the recent Katsina peace deal, asking whether it has genuinely improved security in the northwest or merely displaced the violence to previously unaffected border communities.

As of now, security officials in Kano State have not issued an official statement regarding the incident, but local fear remains high due to the vulnerability of communities along the volatile border corridor.
