KINSHASA, DRC — The Democratic Republic of Congo’s health ministry has confirmed a new Ebola virus outbreak in the central Kasai province, which has reportedly led to the deaths of at least 15 people.
The ministry stated that the presence of the deadly virus was confirmed in a 34-year-old pregnant woman who was admitted to a hospital last month with symptoms including a high fever and repeated vomiting. She passed away within hours from multiple organ failure.
This outbreak marks the 16th time the virus has appeared in the vast central African nation, which is grappling with poor health services and ongoing conflict. So far, 28 suspected cases have been recorded. In response to the crisis, health officials have urged the public to adhere to strict preventive measures, including frequent handwashing and social distancing, especially in high-risk areas.
