Mounir Nasraoui, father of Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal, is now under investigation for his role in a stabbing incident that occurred in July 2024 in Mataró, near Barcelona, according to a report by Crónica Global (via A Bola) published on July 11, 2025. Initially reported as the victim, Nasraoui is being treated as a possible aggressor by the Court of Instruction No. 3 in Mataró.
The incident took place around 8 p.m. in a parking lot, stemming from a dispute earlier that day involving Nasraoui’s son and nephew, who allegedly splashed water on an individual. Nasraoui and friends arranged a meeting to resolve the issue, but tensions escalated. According to the defense of the accused attacker, Nasraoui punched a young man, breaking his nose, before being stabbed in retaliation. A companion of Nasraoui reportedly confirmed he initiated the physical assault.
Nasraoui, who was hospitalized in serious but stable condition following the stabbing, has been summoned to testify as a suspect on July 21, 2025. The case is now viewed as a mutual confrontation rather than a one-sided attack.
The incident initially shocked the football community, with Nasraoui stabbed multiple times in the Rocafonda neighborhood. Four individuals were arrested, with three detained on charges of attempted murder shortly after the incident and a fourth later. Nasraoui, who has been a vocal supporter of his son’s career, was discharged from the hospital days later and expressed gratitude for public support.
This development follows Nasraoui’s history of confrontations, including a 2023 incident where he was fined €546 for attacking a far-right political party’s tent in Mataró, citing provocation in his diverse neighborhood. The ongoing investigation continues to draw attention, with some Barcelona fans expressing concern over the impact on Lamine Yamal’s career.
