Boxing legend Mike Tyson has returned to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, nearly 50 years after the iconic “Rumble in the Jungle” bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
Unlike the historic fight, Tyson’s visit is not about stepping into the ring. Instead, he came to pay tribute to his Congolese heritage and the enduring legacy of African boxing.

During his visit, Tyson met with DR Congo’s President, Félix Tshisekedi, and toured the Ali-Foreman Stadium, where he connected with young Congolese athletes.

He praised the spirit of Kinshasa, a city that holds a special place in boxing history.

The “Rumble in the Jungle,” held on October 30, 1974, was one of the most legendary events in sports history. The match between undefeated heavyweight champion George Foreman and challenger Muhammad Ali took place at the 20th of May Stadium (now known as the Ali-Foreman Stadium) before a crowd of 60,000. Ali famously won by knockout in the eighth round, etching the event into global memory.

Tyson’s visit celebrates both his personal roots and the continent’s lasting impact on the sport of boxing.
