Real Madrid and France striker Kylian Mbappé is on the verge of winning the European Golden Boot award after a stellar debut season in La Liga.
Mbappé has scored 31 goals, earning him 62 points, and is poised to claim the top spot if Mohamed Salah fails to score at least four goals in Liverpool’s final match against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The European Golden Boot award is determined by a weighted-points system, where goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues are worth two points each. Goals in leagues ranked sixth to 22nd are worth 1.5 points, while those in lower-ranked leagues are worth one point. Currently, the standings are:
Current Standings:
Kylian Mbappé: 31 goals, 62 points
Viktor Gyökeres: 39 goals, 58.5 points (has finished his matches)
Mohamed Salah: 28 goals, 56 points
However, in Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad, Mbappé scored two goals, taking the lead in the Golden Boot race. For Salah to win, he needs a hat-trick against Crystal Palace. Since Mbappé has already completed his season, his 62 points put him in a strong position to claim the award.
The final outcome will be determined by Sunday’s Premier League match, but for now, Mbappé is one step away from securing his first European Golden Boot award.
