Lazio have officially confirmed that head coach Maurizio Sarri has successfully undergone heart surgery in Rome following a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation.
The 66-year-old tactician underwent a catheter ablation procedure on Monday to correct an irregular heartbeat, a condition that can increase the risk of stroke if left untreated.
Positive Surgical Outcome
The club released a statement confirming that the operation was carried out by Professor Andrea Natale, with Lazio’s club doctor, Italo Leo, also in attendance. The procedure was described as having a “positive outcome,” with no complications reported.
Lazio fans and the football community have expressed relief at the news, as Sarri remains one of the most respected figures in Italian coaching.
Team Management and Return Timeline
During Sarri’s brief recovery period, assistant coach Marco Ianni has been tasked with taking charge of first-team training sessions.
Lazio supporters may not have to wait long to see their manager back in action. The club is optimistic that Sarri will resume his full duties in the coming days. He is currently being tipped to return to the touchline for the high-stakes clash against his former club, Napoli, at the Stadio Olimpico this coming Sunday.
