A tragic incident occurred in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, when Sergeant Abel Masava, a police officer stationed at Tshabalala Police Station, was fatally shot while on duty. The shooting happened in the early hours of Friday, leaving the community in shock and prompting a manhunt for the suspected killers of the police officer.
According to an internal police memo, Masava was responding to a domestic violence call when he encountered a group of five men. While standing next to his police vehicle and in full uniform, he approached the group and asked for their identification. However, instead of complying, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Masava at point-blank range.
The police report stated, “One of them pointed a firearm and shot Sergeant Masava in the head… He was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals where he was confirmed dead on arrival.” The incident occurred while Masava was stationed outside a house in Sizinda, where he had accompanied another officer to address a domestic violence incident.
The fatal shooting of Sergeant Masava has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
