Manchester United’s efforts to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo have hit a significant obstacle, with Brentford rejecting two bids from the Red Devils in the past month, as reported on July 16, 2025. United, aiming to make Mbeumo their second major signing of the summer following the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, saw their initial £55 million offer and a subsequent £60 million bid turned down by Brentford, who are holding firm on a valuation closer to £65 million.
The gap in valuation between the two clubs remains a key sticking point, with Brentford insisting on a higher upfront payment for the 25-year-old Cameroonian forward, who scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League last season. Mbeumo, who has expressed a clear preference for a move to Old Trafford, is seen as a perfect fit for manager Ruben Amorim’s system, but negotiations continue to falter.
Brentford are already preparing for a potential departure, targeting Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson as a replacement, though their £35 million bid for the 21-year-old was rejected due to payment structure issues. Meanwhile, the club faces further changes with former head coach Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur, where he replaced Ange Postecoglou earlier this summer. Tottenham have also shown interest in Mbeumo, but the player’s focus remains on joining United.
With Mbeumo’s contract running until June 2026 and Brentford holding a one-year extension option, the Bees are in a strong position to demand their desired fee. As United prepare for their pre-season tour of the United States, the club remains hopeful of finalizing a deal but may need to meet Brentford’s £65 million valuation to secure the forward’s services.
