Manchester United have triggered a one-year extension to Harry Maguire’s contract, confirming that the defender will remain at Old Trafford until June 2026.

The 31-year-old center-back joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 and has since made 222 appearances, scoring 12 goals and winning two major trophies: the 2023 Carabao Cup and 2024 Emirates FA Cup.

Head coach Ruben Amorim announced the contract extension during a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield. Amorim praised Maguire’s leadership qualities and emphasized the importance of his role in the team.

“Harry Maguire is a leader, and we need him a lot,” Amorim said. “He has to improve his game, but we are happy to continue with him. We are starving for leaders on the pitch, and he is one of them.”

Maguire has impressed under Amorim, particularly in the 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, where he played in a back three formation. He has also worn the captain’s armboat in Bruno Fernandes’ absence.

In addition to Maguire’s contract extension, Amorim revealed that another player, Amad, is close to signing a new deal with the club.

With Maguire’s future secured, Manchester United fans will be eager to see the defender continue to play a key role in the team’s success.
