South Africa Premier League side, Mamelodi Sundowns have qualified for the CAF Champions League final to the expense of Egyptian club, Al Ahly.
Sundowns held Al Ahly to a 1 – 1 draw in Cairo on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Al Ahly had taken the lead in the 23rd minutes through Taher Mohamed, almost doubling their lead on the half-hour mark through a powerful shot at the near post by Ashour, but it was saved by Ronwen Williams.
There was a nervous moment for the host after the hour mark when Ribeiro went down in the area and warranted a check by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), but the referee stood by his on-field decision of not awarding a penalty.
Sundowns were rewarded in added time when Yasser Ibrahim guided a snapshot by Iqraam Rayners into his own net, which gave the visitors an away goal in the 90th minute.
The visitors held on for a 1-1 draw and secured a spot in the final of the tournament on the away-goal rule after drawing 0 – 0 in South Africa during the first leg.
