The Lagos State Police Command on September 30, arraigned Shamusideen Oladiti, a prominent leader of Nigeria’s National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court in Yaba. Oladiti is facing charges related to the alleged murder of a dispatch rider.

The 55-year-old Oladiti, also known as “Shameleon,” was brought before the court on three counts: murder, conspiracy, and grievous harm.

The charge sheet showed that the incident occurred on August 27 and September 17, 2025, within the Lagos Island Magisterial District. The prosecution presented the case, stating that Oladiti, along with others who remain at large, assaulted two men, Imam Ramon and Omale Samuel, with fists, causing severe injuries. Ramon was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The court heard that the charges contravene Sections 223, 411, and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation began when the dispatch rider was accused of scratching Oladiti’s vehicle along Tapa Street, Lagos Island. The victim was allegedly struck multiple times with a helmet and fists by Oladiti and his associates. After collapsing from the assault, Ramon was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.

Upon being read the charges, Oladiti pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate ordered his remand in custody pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
