Laide Bakare Defends Introducing 17-Year-Old Daughter to Nightclub Amid Backlash

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare is facing significant public criticism after revealing that she introduced her 17-year-old daughter to a nightclub environment. The actress initially sparked controversy by stating she had given her daughter her “first club experience” and a “taste of alcohol” as preparation for adulthood.

The statement drew swift condemnation from many Nigerians, who argued that exposing a minor to nightlife was an act of irresponsible parenting that could lead to negative consequences. Critics widely questioned the actress’s judgment as a mother.

Bakare Offers Clarification

In response to the intense backlash, Bakare took to Instagram to defend her actions, insisting that her words had been widely misunderstood. She clarified that her daughter’s first entry into a club was at her own birthday afterparty and that her intention was strictly to provide “exposure for the future,” not to encourage underage drinking.

The actress specifically addressed the alcohol claim, writing: “Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday afterparty. How is that bad naw?”

In a follow-up post, she reiterated her position, stating: “No please, I didn’t do alcohol with @simlineboss, only club, and it’s just to give her a bit of exposure towards the future. I’m not as bad as you think.”

The actress maintains that the outing was intended as a controlled environment to prepare her daughter for the future, countering claims that she was promoting inappropriate behavior for a minor. The incident continues to fuel a debate online regarding modern parenting styles and the appropriate age for children to be exposed to nightlife.
