Ghana’s Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has asked the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to call off its planned strike.
GRNMA had threatened on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 that its members will embark on a strike nationwide in Ghana on June 9, 2025.
The Association cited unresolved concerns over the conditions of service of its members as the basis for planning to go on strike.
However, the Minister says such a strike could adversely affect healthcare delivery in Ghana, appealing to the nurses and midwives to rescind their decision.
Dr. Pelpuo observed the importance of dialogue between all stakeholders, saying “When we embark on the strike, it has a total effect on society. In whatever sector you belong to, it has a direct effect on society and development.”
He said: “This means that employers and stakeholders must always work together to conclude when there is no need for a strike. Eventually, the government must listen to them, the health authorities must listen to them.”
