La Pleasure Beach in Accra became the epicenter of reggae music as the 2025 Kuchoko Roots Festival delivered a night of electrifying performances and cultural celebration. Drawing a massive crowd, the festival exceeded all expectations, blending global reggae powerhouses with Ghanaian legends for an unforgettable experience.
The night’s biggest moment came with the Ghana debut of Jamaican icons Kenyatta Hill and Duane Stephenson. Stephenson set the stage ablaze, captivating fans with hit after hit. The energy peaked when he performed Another Day in Paradise, with the crowd singing along in perfect harmony. But it was August Town that truly shook the beach—an almost spiritual moment of collective euphoria.
Stephenson, thrilled by the festival’s production, praised the organizers: “I’ve toured the world, but playing with a full horn section here was something special. Kuchoko gave me that. I’ll be back!”
Then came Kenyatta Hill, a force of pure reggae energy. Channeling his legendary father, Joseph Hill of Culture, he stormed the stage like a lion, delivering a high-voltage performance packed with reggae classics. At one point, he held up a photo of his father, kissed it, and sent the crowd into another wave of reggae madness, keeping them entranced for over an hour and a half.
But the night wasn’t just about international stars. Ghana’s own Blakk Rasta, the pioneer of Kuchoko music, delivered a fiery closing act alongside the Herbalist Band. Taking the stage at 5:20 AM, he commanded the crowd with call-and-response anthems like Barack Obama and Sodom and Gomorrah, proving why he remains a titan in live band music.
With supporting acts such as JahWi, Osagyefo, Aklerh, Renner, Kwame Bediako, The Mighty Orthodox Band, and standout Burkinabé artists Ras Simposh, ZMo, and Ima Hado, the festival was a vibrant melting pot of reggae excellence.
The energy carried over to an exclusive VIP session at +233 Bar and Grill on March 15, where Kenyatta Hill, Blakk Rasta, Osagyefo, and others treated fans to an intimate night of live music.
With Kuchoko Roots Festival 2025 setting a new gold standard, one burning question remains: Can 2026 match the magic? One thing is certain—the spirit of reggae in Ghana is alive, thriving, and unstoppable!
