Kenya and Senegal have taken a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations with the signing of a visa-waiver agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel visa-free for up to 90 days.
The announcement was made following a high-level meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, between President William Ruto and visiting Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye at State House in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
President Faye is in Kenya on an official visit aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
President Ruto emphasized the commitment of both governments to strengthening ties in key areas of shared interest.
“We are working with Senegal to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. To strengthen the relations between our two countries to unlock opportunities, we are exploring the establishment of a Joint Cooperation Commission that will help remove barriers to trade and investment,” President Ruto said in a statement posted on his official Facebook page.
He hailed the visa-waiver deal as a milestone that will bring citizens of both countries closer.
“We have also agreed to lift visa restrictions for our citizens, allowing visa-free travel for up to 90 days. This milestone will foster stronger people-to-people ties while boosting tourism, trade and collaboration,” he added.
The leaders also witnessed the official signing of the agreement during the State House event.
The visit and agreements mark a growing trend of African nations enhancing intra-continental collaboration, with a focus on facilitating movement, trade, and economic growth.
