Kaneshie Court Postpones Stephen King Amoah Murder Case to August 8, 2025

The Kaneshie Court in Accra, Ghana, delayed proceedings in the suspected murder case of 38-year-old Ghanaian Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah to August 8, 2025, during a session on Thursday, July 24, as police investigations proceed, with the main suspect in custody.

Initially treated as a kidnapping, the case has been reclassified as murder due to its gravity and complexity, leading to its transfer from the Kwabenya Circuit Court to the High Court, which has wider jurisdiction. Amoah was reported missing on July 3, 2025, after telling his wife he was meeting a friend at Ashongman Estate to collect a GHS200,000 debt. That evening, his wife received a text from his phone stating he had returned home with the money, but the house was empty, and his phone was off.

On July 8, 2025, a partially burnt body was found in a gutter at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya and was identified by family as Amoah’s at the Police Hospital morgue on July 9, despite extensive burns. The suspect, Bright Aweh, believed to be the last person Amoah contacted, allegedly admitted during questioning to giving Amoah GHS500,000—comprising the GHS200,000 debt and an additional GHS300,000 for safekeeping—but his inconsistent account of the funds’ origin has deepened suspicion.

The Ghana Police Service continues its investigation and calls for public assistance through 18555, 192, or the nearest police station. Amoah’s grieving family seeks justice, urging authorities to act swiftly and transparently. His death has sparked national concern, with colleagues and loved ones remembering him as a diligent and honorable officer.
