Veteran Ghanaian actress and NDC stalwart Kalsoume Sinare is set to represent Ghana on the international stage as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, following her nomination by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama.
Her appointment forms part of a newly announced list of 15 individuals tipped for ambassadorial and high commissioner positions, subject to parliamentary approval.
Kalsoume Sinare, one of Ghana’s most respected faces in the movie industry, brings decades of experience in the creative arts to her new role. With several film credits to her name and a legacy that has inspired generations of Ghanaian women, her nomination reflects a move to blend culture and diplomacy in promoting Ghana’s global image.
Beyond acting, the movie icon has been a vocal political figure, openly campaigning for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and throwing her weight behind Mahama in previous elections. Her deep-rooted commitment to national development through the arts and her consistent political engagement appear to have positioned her as a suitable candidate to serve Ghana on the diplomatic front.
Joining her in this diplomatic wave are other distinguished personalities including former La-Dadekotopon MP Nii Amasah Namoale and ex-Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu—both of whom bring a wealth of political and administrative experience to the table.
The list also includes respected academics such as Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and Associate Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, who made history as the first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. Their inclusion signifies an emphasis on intellectual diplomacy and a recognition of academia’s role in Ghana’s global engagement.
President Mahama’s nominations are expected to undergo parliamentary scrutiny in the coming weeks. The appointments have already stirred conversations about the balance between political loyalty and professional merit in diplomatic selections.
For many, however, Kalsoume Sinare’s inclusion stands out not just as a nod to celebrity influence, but as a strategic effort to bring cultural depth and relatable human connection to Ghana’s foreign relations.
