A US federal judge, Martha M. Pacold, has denied American RnB singer, R Kelly the opportunity to be released from prison amid claims by his lawyer that jail officials are plotting to kill him.
R Kelly is serving more than 30 years for several sex crime convictions.
Since last week, R Kelly’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, has been petitioning a Chicago court for his release.
Lawyer Brindley alleged that prison officials and the Aryan Brotherhood were trying to kill R Kelly.
According to the lawyer, they are trying to kill R Kelly to stop him from releasing certain damaging information in his case.
He alleged that prison officers attempted to solicit a fellow inmate to carry out the murder.
In a court motion filed on Monday, Brindley alleged that “Mr. Kelly’s life is in danger and the threat comes from Bureau of Prisons officers whose duty is to protect him.”
The lawyer further alleged that the federal Bureau of Prisons is “seeking to kill” R. Kelly “to cover up crimes committed in the investigation of his case.”
“The threat to Mr Kelly’s life continues each day that no action is taken,” the filing states. “More AB members are accumulating at his facility. More than one has already been approached about carrying out his murder. One of them will surely do what Mr Stine has not, thereby burying the truth about what happened in this case along with Robert Kelly.”
It goes on to say: “Mr Kelly’s continued incarceration while he knows his life is in jeopardy constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.”
Brindley says the officials failed to get him killed, they fed Kelly an overdose quantity of sleeping pills.
He claimed the prison officials also denied Kelly medically-necessary surgery for blood clots.
According to him, after the overdose, Kelly was hospitalized at the Duke University Hospital but prison officials went there and removed him from admission.
But despite the plea for Kelly to be placed under house arrest to apparently save his life, judge Pacold denied him the release request.
According to the judge, such a request must be brought as a civil rights lawsuit or habeas corpus petition in North Carolina, where Kelly is currently serving his prison term.
