Polls have opened across Côte d’Ivoire as Ivorians vote to elect their next president in an election in which incumbent President Alassane Ouattara is seeking a fourth-term of office.

Four other candidates are contesting in the elections alongside 83-year-old Ouattara who has refused to leave power even though Ivory Coast’s constitution original limit the Presidential term to two-terms.

Ouattara’s ruling Rally of Houphouetistes for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) is heading into the elections with majority of seats in parliament with 169 out of 255 seats.

Ouattara is being challenged by four other candidates, including Simone Gbagbo, a former first lady, and Jean-Loius Billion, a former commerce minister under Ouattara. They have all promised jobs and new agricultural policies.
