Iranian authorities have confirmed that at least six Iranian scientists have been killed in Israel’s overnight attacks on nuclear plants in Iran.
Among those dead is Fereydoon Abbasi, a former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
Also killed is Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, who served as the president of the Islamic Azad University in Tehran.
Abdolhamid Minouchehr, Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari, and Amirhossein Feqhi were academics at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University.
The sixth victim has only been identified by their surname, Motallebizadeh.
Aside the scientists, Iran State TV has reported that civilians including children are among the dead.
Meanwhile, Israel says Iran has in retaliation, fired about 100 towards its territory, many of which were intercepted.
Israel’s IDF said it carried out strikes on nuclear plants in Iran, saying Iran’s Revolutionary Guard boss, Hossein Salami and other commanders have been killed.
