Iran has announced launching what it described as a “powerful” retaliatory attack on a US airbase in Qatar.

The country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed the attack on the US Air base in Qatar.

But Qatar’s Defense Ministry says its air defenses “successfully” intercepted the missiles attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

Iran’s attack is in response to the US military bomb attack on three nuclear sites in Iran a few days ago.

But Qatar has condemned the retaliatory attack, calling it “a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace.”

In a statement, Majed Al-Ansari, a spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, says “We affirm that the state of Qatar reserves the right to respond directly, proportionate to the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with international law.”

He says “We are assured that Qatari air defenses thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles. A statement clarifying the circumstances of the attack will be issued later by the Ministry of Defense.”

Following the attack, Qatar temporarily closed its airspace.

US and UK citizens in Qatar have reportedly been advised to shelter in place.

Iran’s retaliatory attack comes as Israel announced it is targeting Tehran, the Iranian capital with “unprecedented force”, including attacks on “access routes” to the Fordow nuclear site and Evin prison.”
