A taskforce of Ghana’s Gold Board (GoldBod) has arrested 10 Chinese citizens for allegedly engaging in illegal gold trading and smuggling operations.

 

The Chinese were arrested at a private residence in Asankragwa in the Western Region of Ghana.

According to the GoldBod, its intelligence-based raid resulted in the seizures of 1.3kg of gold worth Ghc 1.4 million, Ghc 1.3 million in cash, 12 pump-action guns, cartridges, gold trading records, and other proceeds that had been converted into casino cards.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, told journalists that the suspects will be prosecuted.
